Last year I was lucky to buy one for just €10 in a thrift store. And you’re right: it plays like a dream! I have many Philips CD-players like the CD850 MkII, even a CDD882 in combination with the famous DFA88 (amongst many others). But… for daily use I prefer the 670 … (my current FA860, FC880, FC567, and the CD670). It’s FAST (reading disc, skipping, and… most importantly - this might sound a bit silly - a very fast opening (and closing :-) drawer… 😂

It's a great bit of kit! Anyone know if anyone repairs these anymore? I have a motor/laser issue on one of my units sadly.

i have sony 7600d digital radio. 10 khz...30 mhz continously and good reception including ssb (lsb ,usb) .But it consumes too much current and causing battery replacement too often.(so i use an external power source)..When i compared sangean's big size communication receiver , sangeans reception was better.Also grundig's and national 's world band receivers are at least the same quality or more. Thank your for your good explanation. i am a radio fun more than 55 y and electronics eng. I was making my radios in early 1970 bur never reached the same quality sony or grundig.

A lovely Radio from the late '70's / early 80's ...own One of there Radios, love operating it , very easy Radio to operate & it has quite a good Receiver

Currently, it is one of the best acoustically solved mobile sets. Additionally, the set of supported media makes it versatile. I recommend.👍

Would have been nice if some minimal review of the features were included rather than turning knobs and switches on this radio. Helluva receiver for sure - Rich W2FKN

Jou can do the Gui in fullscreen mode and there is also a MB1 Gui under the puppet in the right upper corner next to the options button.

Get a Kenwood TS890S. I think you will like it better, and pay a lot less. Better yet, get both the Yaesu FTDX101D and the Kenwood TS-890S and still save some money.

I think its from the late 1950s. The transformer is the driver not the output transformer! Radiomuseum has the schematics.

I have one of these that I bought in 1996 or 97. I think you're judging the sound quality based on what you can achieve now VS 1994 when these came out. I just dragged mine up from the basement to play around with in the garage. I'll need to replace the NiMH rechargeables in it but it works fine on AC. I don't have much use for something like this in 2024 but if, like me, you have a half dozen old iPods or an old iPhone with the 30 pin connector laying about it would be fun to have in a laundry room or something similar just for convenience to have sound folding clothes.

The decline of HIFI began in the 1980s. Things never worked out again. In the Netherlands where I live, the Philips HiFi was very poor. The sound from an alarm clock radio is better
